Follow a matter, verify a setting, understand a filing, or research a public case: the statewide system supports all four for Steuben County, Indiana, and the online summary still does not replace the clerk-held record. Indiana calls the docket a Chronological Case Summary, the event-by-event register for a case in Circuit or Superior Court. Search by number or name. Official copy, missing filing, current balance, or confirmed hearing needed? Contact the county Clerk in Angola, and a Steuben County court docket search that does so ends with the record.

Where Steuben Dockets Actually Live

Steuben County dockets sit behind the state's online hub. From there, the public can reach MyCase and the court's filing resources. The official Steuben County court page handles that handoff.

Indiana courts Steuben County hub with MyCase and e-filing links

Each tool does one job. MyCase is the public discovery layer. The elected Clerk is the official custodian for Circuit and Superior records. Odyssey e-filing exists to submit covered filings, not to browse Steuben County court dockets. AllPaid takes county-directed card payments, but it is not a case search. The county events calendar is not a daily court-setting feed. CourtCall is an attorney appearance service, not public streaming.

Inside a Steuben County Court Docket

Indiana calls its docket register a Chronological Case Summary, or CCS. Entries appear in order, logging judicial events as they happen. The case file behind it is broader. It holds pleadings, motions, service returns, orders, exhibits, transcripts, and more. A MyCase result may show some documents. The complete file stays out of view.

Decode 76C01 and 76D01

The first block of a current Steuben County case number tells you the court. 76C01 means Steuben Circuit Court; 76D01 means Steuben Superior Court. The middle blocks mark the filing period and case type. The last sequence distinguishes the case itself. Common type codes include CF and other felony-level codes. CM covers misdemeanor cases, IF infractions, OV ordinance violations. SC is small claims, EV eviction, and PL plenary civil.

CCS
The official chronological event register under Trial Rule 77.
Appear By
A displayed deadline or appearance instruction, not automatically a conventional hearing.
Disposition
The resolution of a charge or case, which must be distinguished from the allegation.
Certified copy
A Clerk-certified reproduction, different from an online view or ordinary copy.

Older Steuben County records may carry codes for courts that no longer exist, such as 76E01 Steuben County Court or 76I01 Fremont Town Court. They explain history only; neither is an active court to pick for a new docket search.

Courts That Keep Dockets in Steuben County

Steuben County runs a two-court trial system with one elected Clerk. Local rules assign several categories of cases first, and Odyssey handles random assignment for the rest.

CourtDocket coversSearch or contact
Steuben Circuit CourtProbate, adoption, specified juvenile matters, small claims, evictions, and assigned civil cases.MyCase; court extension 2000; Clerk for records.

Remaining civil cases go through Odyssey random assignment. A presiding judge may still approve a particular filing for good cause. A later related matter can stay with an existing case in specified circumstances. The live case number and assigned court control. The Indiana Supreme Court approved amended Steuben local rules on November 26, 2024, effective December 1, 2024. Those provisions cover assignment, criminal and traffic procedure, mediation, devices, transcripts, and local programs. An older county handout should never outrank a current rule or the live CCS. The 2024 Judicial Service Report lists two judges, one magistrate, and three court-of-record officers. They serve a judicial staffing population of 34,862. That figure is not a case count. Before quoting local filings or dispositions, consult the official IOCS data files.

A Floor-by-Floor Records Visit

The Steuben County Judicial Center sits at 305 South Martha Street. That is in Angola, Indiana 46703. The Clerk works from the first floor. Superior Court sits on the second. Circuit Court is on the third. Listed office hours run Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Reach the Clerk at 260-668-1000 extension 2240; the fax is 260-668-3702. The county home page posts the official navigation for visitors.

Bring identification and written case information. Local rules bar cell phones, cameras, and recording devices inside the courthouse, and staff can confiscate them at the entrance subject to stated exemptions. The county publishes no instructions on public terminals, drop boxes, parking, Wi-Fi, or accessibility, so call the Clerk before counting on any of them.

How to Find Court Dates and Settings

Open the case in MyCase and read the newest relevant hearing event. It may show Event Date, session text, comment, result, judicial officer, or cancellation reason. A canceled marker does not give you the replacement date. Work through later CCS entries. Confirm with the assigned court when no new event is clear. Steuben County publishes no separate daily public court calendar. The county traffic page offers one recurring detail: infraction settings are Mondays at 3:30 p.m. The specific ticket still controls, though. Five appearance exceptions are listed. They cover being under eighteen with a parent or guardian, driving while suspended, open container, learner's-permit violation, and passing a school bus. In small claims, hearing dates normally land about six weeks after filing. Service and notice set the actual hearing. For continuances and missed settings, see the Court Dates page.

CourtCall Is Not a Public Docket

The county courts overview explains local use of CourtCall. View the official court overview for the county's own description.

Steuben County courts overview and CourtCall explanation

CourtCall lets attorneys arrange certain remote appearances. That is its whole role. It creates no public calendar, livestream, transcript, or record repository, and it grants no one permission to appear remotely. A participant follows the assigned court's order and instructions; an observer or researcher should verify the public setting and courthouse access directly with the court.

Public Access to Court Dockets

Indiana law generally favors access to court records, but judicial rules govern what is public, what is excluded, and how a request proceeds. Public metadata does not make every exhibit or attachment public.

Key rules:

Indiana Access to Public Records Act, I.C. 5-14-3 supports reasonably particular inspection and copy requests during regular hours.

Access to Court Records Rule 4 establishes the general accessibility principle for court records.

Access Rule 5 identifies confidential, sealed, excluded, and protected categories.

Access Rule 9 provides a verified written process for seeking an excluded record.

Trial Rule 77 defines the Clerk’s CCS and case-record duties.

The current Access to Court Records rules were updated effective July 1, 2026. If an online result or document is unavailable, ask which authority applies. Never assume the item must be released.

Why a Public Case Can Hide a Filing

Rule 5 keeps certain matters private. Juvenile cases, mental-health records, treatment programs, protection orders, and pretrial or problem-solving dockets all fall under it. A case can stay visible in the Steuben County court docket. One filing inside it may sit behind a restriction. A granted expungement can also shrink what a docket search returns. Some older documents were simply never posted online. So an empty result, or a missing document icon, proves nothing about whether the case exists. Treat both as a dead end for today, not a verdict on the record itself.

Parties get more than strangers do. Your own case may open up through an access code or a court process. That route runs through you, not the general public search. Do not record private birth dates, addresses, victim or witness names, medical details, or excluded attachments while working from a docket. When you seek authorized access, Rule 9 demands a verified written request that a judge considers. Nobody grants it at the counter on a casual ask. Before pushing further, ask the Clerk whether the item is offline, restricted, sealed, or held only in the official file. That question costs the least and answers the most.

Docket Records at the Clerk's Office

Tangi Manahan, Clerk of Steuben County, holds the court records for both Circuit and Superior Courts. She is the elected custodian of that docket file. So anything beyond a screen belongs to her office. Need in-person review, a mailed request, or a certified copy? Go to the Clerk. The same office holds the current ledger and any filing that no online docket links to. Name the case number and the exact document. Add the rough event date and whether you want certification. The county publishes no dedicated APRA form and sets no fixed response deadline. The official Clerk page lays out the office's role and how to reach it.

Official Clerk page

The Clerk will not run broad criminal searches for the public, citing liability. Find the specific case in MyCase first, then ask for it by name and number. For a mailed request, include the case or cause number and the item you want, add accepted payment if required, and enclose a self-addressed stamped envelope when county instructions call for one.

Five Ways to Reach a Steuben Record

Online access is only the first channel. Four others exist. MyCase works for discovery. You can also call the Clerk or the assigned court. Visit the Clerk during posted hours, mail a precise request to the current Judicial Center address, or use the county's court contact form for a defined office question. Fax numbers are out there. Circuit's is 260-665-1913 and Superior's is 260-668-4453. Official sources do not expressly confirm fax acceptance for every records request, though.

Match the channel to the question before you reach out. The Clerk maintains the file and handles copies. Circuit or Superior confirms a setting or a court instruction. The Magistrate office can clarify its assigned calendar. The Pretrial office answers program questions at extension 3090. A court contact form collects identifying and reply information plus comments and a CAPTCHA. It carries no APRA label and promises no special response deadline. A reasonably particular records request remains the safer approach.

Payment and filing tools have their own limits. AllPaid and telephone card service use location code 1595 and add a service fee. They answer payment questions, not record or certification questions. Indiana e-filing providers let attorneys and eligible filers submit documents but offer no public searching. Want a public terminal or a drop box? Confirm availability with the Clerk instead of inferring it. And remember that a payment receipt certifies nothing about a disposition. It may not cover every later assessment. It never proves a related BMV suspension has cleared.

The Two-Address Courthouse Trap

Older official material and local history point to 55 South Public Square. That building is the historic Steuben County Courthouse. It is not the working address for today's Clerk, Circuit Court, or Superior Court. The Judicial Center opened in 2024. A March 2025 reuse report described the old landmark as unoccupied while reuse planning continues. The state-hosted historic courthouse profile tells that story.

Historic Steuben County Courthouse at 55 South Public Square

Send current court correspondence and records requests to 305 South Martha Street. That holds unless the Clerk directs otherwise. A legacy address inside an old rule, packet, or notice should trigger a confirmation call, not an assumption that the historic landmark still serves as the records desk.

The move also explains a common confusion. A current website, an older local-rule paragraph, and a historic listing can all look official while naming different places. Settle the conflict with the current Indiana court directory and the live county contact page. Time-sensitive filing or appearance coming up? Call before you mail anything or drive over. The distinction that matters is operational. Public Square preserves courthouse history, while South Martha is where the county's trial-court departments do their work today.

Steuben County Court Dockets by City

Steuben's five largest incorporated places have no separate current municipal court entry in the state directory. City and town websites offer local ordinances, notices, and government contacts. Any case that proceeds in the state trial system is searched through MyCase and the county Clerk. Fremont's former 76I01 Town Court no longer exists. It was abolished at the end of 2023. Hamilton and Ashley cross county lines. A place name alone cannot tell you which county court holds the docket.

Map and Directions to the Steuben County Judicial Center

Steuben Circuit Court and Steuben Superior Court both sit in the Steuben County Judicial Center, 305 South Martha Street in Angola, completed in 2024. The Clerk's Office is on the first floor, Superior Court is on the second floor, and Circuit Court is on the third floor. The historic courthouse at 55 South Public Square is a landmark from the county's earlier history and is not the active court address; older local-rule paragraphs and forms sometimes still print that address, so confirm the current Judicial Center location before mailing a packet or appearing.

Current local rules bar cell phones, cameras, and recording devices inside the Judicial Center; a device can be confiscated at the front door and returned on the way out, with exceptions for courthouse employees, law enforcement, and Indiana Bar members. No parking map, security-screening hours, or accessibility details have been published, so calling the Clerk at 260-668-1000 ext. 2240 ahead of a visit is the safest way to plan around those gaps.
